At The Speech Garden, we believe that each child is unique and, thus, has individual learning needs. As such, our curriculum is teacher-created, ever-evolving, and child-centered.

We believe that the natural curiosity of preschoolers drives learning and the heart of our curriculum is based upon those curiosities. With careful consideration, we develop seasonal themes and select appropriate literature to drive each day’s learning. Themes are incorporated into all of the day’s activities, including hands-on science experiments, early mathematical concepts and pre-reading skills. We also use many visual, auditory, and written cues to supplement instruction in order to reach each child’s unique learning style.

At the beginning of each year, our teachers analyze the parent provided paperwork and work with parents to create each child’s individual goals within a ‘Therapeutic Educational Plan’ or TEP. The TEP goals are integrated into the daily curriculum and guide the overall education of each child. The TEP is constantly evolving as the child’s needs change and is updated throughout the year.

Our Sensory Communication Preschool Class

TSGI currently has a classroom for children who are two-four years old. The class runs four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) from 9:00 to 12:45. Our classroom uses thematic based learning to cover traditional preschool topics, combined with natural opportunities to practice the vocabulary and concepts in real word situations.

This class is taught by a certified speech-language pathologist and educational specialist with a maximum of 12 children, but often operates with fewer.

The curriculum is closely aligned with Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS). With a focus on basic letter knowledge, number skills, prewriting, social skills, and overall sensory integration, the curriculum prepares students for a life-time of learning.

Parent Communication

TSGI takes parent communication very seriously. We provide daily summaries, often accompanied with pictures and videos, of all activities on private classroom blogs. These blogs allow us to communicate daily with families, whose children may not be able to relay the details of their day.

Because the classroom is led by certified clinicians, keeping data and tracking progress is also important. The preschool is closed three times each year to meet individually with all families to discuss their child’s progress on speech and language goals, along with reporting on academic achievements.
