SpeechScience! Social & Language Therapy through Science Exploration

  • This class meets on Mondays (Sept. 18 to Oct. 23) from 12:45-1:45 for 6 weeks.
  • Children ages 3-5 years old who are appropriate for this program are participating in the NC Standard Course of Study or similar preschool program.
  • Each session starts with music then a short circle time. Most lessons use children’s literature to introduce the scientific concept. Then the group moves to the “lab” portion of class, where the scientific process of questioning, exploration and reporting are used. Each session ends with closing circle and reviewing the class. 
Page Turners’ Book Club
  • This class meets on Tuesdays (Sept. 19 to Oct. 24) from 12:45-1:45 for 6 weeks.
  • Children ages 3-5 years old who are appropriate for this program are participating in the NC Standard Course of Study or similar preschool program.
  • Each class will start with an activity that focuses on the Story Element for the day. After reading a book, we will explore and define elements of a story including the sequence of events, the characters and setting, as well as the problem and solution. To facilitate integrating language, literacy and social communication skills, group activities that connect to the book will follow. 
Social Skills Through Language Learning
  • This class meets on Wednesday (Sept. 20 to Oct. 25) from 12:45-1:45 for 6 weeks.
  • Children ages 3-5 years old who are appropriate for this program are participating in the NC Standard Course of Study or similar preschool program.
  • Each class will start with an activity that focuses on the Social Skill for the day. After reading the skill based literature, we will explore the social skill more in-depth with practice and application. Music will be incorporated to help retain and remember target skills. To facilitate integrating language, literacy and social communication skills, group activities that connect to the book will follow.
