Preschool Age Classes
The Social Skills Through Language Learning class is aimed at teaching children how to interact appropriately with others their age. Many children struggle with picking up common social interaction skills through observation. They require strategic instruction and practice of these skills. This class will specifically target conversational skills, friendship, controlling emotions, understanding other people’s perspectives and additional social skills.
- This class meets on Tuesday (March 29, April 14, April 21 and April 28) from 12:30-1:30 for 4 weeks. The class has a minimum of three children. The cost of a 4 week class is $250.
- Children ages 3-5 years old who are appropriate for this program are participating in the NC Standard Course of Study or similar preschool program.
- Each class will start with an activity that focuses on the Social Skill for the day. After reading the skill based literature, we will explore the social skill more in-depth with practice and application. Music will be incorporated to help retain and remember target skills. To facilitate integrating language, literacy and social communication skills, group activities that connect to the book will follow.
SpeechScience! Social & Language Therapy through Science Exploration
SpeechScience! Social & Language Therapy through Science Exploration is a fun, interactive class designed to help young children successfully participate in the scientific process while improving communication skills. Young children are naturally inquisitive and have fun learning about their world through scientific concepts. Language is naturally being used (and learned) while exploring science. Children learn social skills, listening strategies, literacy skills, mathematics concepts and expand their vocabulary while having so much fun they don’t even realize how much they are learning while exploring science.
- This class meets on Wednesday (April 1, 15, 22 and 29) from 12:30-1:30 for 4 weeks. The class has a minimum of three children. The cost of a 4 week class is $250.
- Children ages 3-5 years old who are appropriate for this program are participating in the NC Standard Course of Study or similar preschool program.
- Each session starts with music then a short circle time. Most lessons use children’s literature to introduce the scientific concept. Then the group moves to the “lab” portion of class, where the scientific process of questioning, exploration and reporting are used. Each session ends with closing circle and reviewing the class.
The Page Turners’ Book Club promotes language and literacy development by providing opportunities to respond to literature through experiential, authentic activities. This class incorporates all aspects of literacy learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each class is designed to engage children in a shared reading about a classic fairytale story and then explore the story’s elements.
- This class meets on Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30 for 6 weeks. The class has a minimum of three children.
- Children ages 3-5 years old who are appropriate for this program are participating in the NC Standard Course of Study or similar preschool program.
- Each class will start with an activity that focuses on the Story Element for the day. After reading a book, we will explore and define elements of a story including the sequence of events, the characters and setting, as well as the problem and solution. To facilitate integrating language, literacy and social communication skills, group activities that connect to the book will follow.

School Age Classes
The Page Turners’ Book Club promotes language and literacy development by providing opportunities to respond to literature through experiential, authentic activities. This class incorporates all aspects of literacy learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each class is designed to engage children in a shared reading about a classic fairytale story and then explore the story’s elements. There is no required read level to attend the class.
- This class meets on Tuesdays (September 16-October 21) from 4:00-5:00PM for 6 weeks. The class has a minimum of three children. The cost of a 6 week class is $375.
- Children in kindergarten and first grade (ages 5-7 years old) participating in the NC Standard Course of Study or similar program are appropriate for this class.
- Each class will start with an activity that focuses on the Story Element for the day. After reading a book, we will explore and define elements of a story including the sequence of events, the characters and setting, as well as the problem and solution. To facilitate integrating language, literacy and social communication skills, group activities that connect to the book will follow.
